Description
The plastic or die-cast metal housings (which provide excellent shielding against EMI-RFI) of these USB 2.0 Type A connectors have a bayonet latching mechanism according to the IEC 61076-3-106 standard. This “quick – connect” bayonet locking mechanism provides an audible and noticeable feedback to assure the user that an IP67 watertight connection is made. The housing can be mounted on the front or rear side of enclosure panels with thickness up to 3.2 mm. A USB 2.0 plug set with solder termination is available for cable mounting and there are also pre-assembled patch cords available in various
IP protection grades and lengths. USB 3.0 provides data transfer rates 10 times faster than USB 2.0. Integrated into the CONEC bayonet locking housing the USB 3.0 connectors become suitable for industrial applications. This interface meets IP67 rating requirements when a mating connector is inserted or when covered with a secured protective cap. They are not intended for use under continuous pressure. In consideration of the broad range of ‘rained on’ definitions, the industry appears to have agreed to a ‘test of immersion for 30 minutes, at a depth of 1 metre, or the equivalent air test at 1.45 psi. That is the Qualification Test. (Protected against the effects of temporary immersion between 15cm and 1metre. Duration of test 30minutes).
The USB 3.0 Type A is plug compatible to USB 2.0 Type A. The Type A USB 3.0 connectors and sockets fully accept all Type A connectors from the former generations. USB 3.0 Type B and Type Micro-B sockets are suitable to accept USB 2.0 Type B and Type Micro-B connectors, but not vice versa. The difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 is an additional signal pair allows full duplex data transfer, i.e. USB 3.0 can read and write data simultaneously at full speed. USB 3.0 can supports up to six devices with up to 150 mA load per device, i.e. a total load of 900 mA. The Conec IP67 USB 3.0 connector series from In2Connect UK is available in plastic or metallised plastic. The Type A / Type A panel mounted receptacles are suitable for front and rear panel mounting. The cable connector accepts cable diameter between 4.0 mm and 6.0 mm. The following cable assemblies are available in different lengths:
• IP67 USB Type A to IP67 USB Type A
• IP67 Type A Plug to USB 3.0 Type A overmoulded (IP20)
• IP67 Type A Plug to USB 3.0 Type B overmoulded (IP20)
• IP67 Type A Plug to USB 3.0 Type Micro-B overmoulded (IP20)
To protect the connector against dirt and moisture in unmated condition, protection caps with tether are available.
CONEC has also added the Mini-USB connector. No further mounting tool is required to make this simple, fast and robust connection. The product line includes a panel receptacle for PCB installation or termination to a flexible circuit. The overall dimensions are compact and require a 12mm diameter panel cutout. The pre – terminated patch cables with an overmoulded IP67 Mini USB Type B plug and an overmoulded USB Type A are available in 2, 3 and 5 m length.
An USB connector with memory stick has been developed especially for harsh environments. A metal case covers the electronics inside and protects them reliably against mechanical and electromagnetic influences. These new Memory Sticks can be used in data logging applications, including the areas of aviation, marine, automotive testing, offshore energy, weather station monitors, and remote pumping stations. Troubleshooting software, back up files, and system upgrades can also be loaded through this memory stick. Standard storage capacity is 2 GB, using a USB 2.0 interface. Working temperature range is -40°C up to 85°C. The full metal housing protects against physical abuse, shields for EMC protection, and easily withstands prolonged UV exposure. Ultra compact to minimize accidental damage. When mated, the memory stick is sealed to protection class IP67. One sixth turn bayonet coupling fits to CONEC receptacles.
