Description
IEC 60309 power connectors to protect against splash or short term immersion from In2Connect are available as cable plugs, square flanged male inlets, angled male inlets; cable in-line sockets, square flanged panel/wall mount sockets, angled wall sockets + sockets mounted on distribution boxes or cable reels.
They are based on the IEC 60309 specification, (formerly IEC 309 and CEE17, also published by CENELEC as EN 60309), an international standard from the IEC for “plugs, socket-outlets and couplers for industrial purposes.” In the UK they’re often called CEE industrial, CEEform or simply CEE plugs, or as “Commando connectors” (the MK Electric brand name for these connectors).
IEC 60309 connectors are popular for external use because they’re available in IP44 (splash-proof) and IP67 (waterproof) variants. In both cases, the rating applies when detached or mated, but not during the mating process. The maximum voltage allowed by the standard is 1000 V AC or DC; the maximum current, 800 Amps; and the maximum frequency, 500 Hz. The ambient temperature range is −25 °C to 40 °C. The cable connectors and sockets are keyed and colour-coded, according to the voltage range and frequency used; common colours for 50–60 Hz AC power are yellow for 100–130 volts, blue for 200–250 volts, and red for 380–480 volts. RoHS and CE.
The IP44 variant features a spring-loaded hinged cap over the socket. When a plug is inserted, the cap hooks over a lug on the plug and retains it in place. Fixed connectors are usually installed angled downward to prevent water entering. The IP67 variant includes a gasket and twist-lock ring which seals the two together. The two types can be intermated, but of course the locking mechanisms will not work. Because of compliance with IEC 60309-2 “Dimensional interchangeability requirements for pin and contact-tube accessories”, In2Connect CEE connectors from Weipu will mate other pins and contact tubes of standardized configurations on the market.
