Overview

 

Formerly known as MIL-C 5015 these connectors are sometimes called “AN” (Army/Navy) type connectors because this was the mainstay connector series of the Military and Aerospace Industry. MIL-DTL-5015 was superseded by SAE-AS50151 in December 2009 as result of the United States Department of Defence wishing to reduce/replace the number of military standards in favour of industry technical standards supported by Standards Developing Organizations [SDO] – such as the ISO 9000 series for quality assurance and the SAE for technical specifications. SAE Technical specification AS50151 is taken directly from US Military Standard MIL-DTL-5015H; covers circular threaded electrical connectors with solder or removable crimp contacts and is a Military Standard for circular multi-pin electrical connectors used under harsh environmental conditions. These connectors are also referred to as MS connectors or Amphenol connectors. They have been used in US and NATO military systems since the 1950s. The number of pins in a MIL-DTL-5015 connector can range from one to 104. The mechanical connection is made with a threaded outer housing of the connector. The specification covers circular electrical connectors with solder or removable crimp contacts (both front and rear release). These connectors are for use in electronic, electrical power, and control circuits and are available with metal MIL-DTL-5015 or commercial nylon bodies.

Male or female contacts are possible in either plug or socket type connector bodies (shells).

VG95234 Reverse bayonet coupling versions of the original Mil-DTL-5015 series are also available. These are rugged circular connectors with metal shells having 1 to 150 solder or crimp contacts rated at 13 to 150 amps. Environmentally sealed versions are readily available. These connectors give quick positive coupling with an audible indication of full coupling. Other attributes include high shock and vibration capabilities without the need for lockwiring. These versatile, easy to connect plugs have been widely used for numerous commercial, mass-transit and the environmental requirements of military equipment. Both VG95234 and MIL-DTL-5015 feature the same shell dimensions and planforms (contact layouts), however they won’t mate with each other because of their differing coupling systems.

MIL-E-QUAL ~ field Installable, screw thread coupling, Nylon MIL-C-5015 equivalent connectors. 2 to 37 solder or crimp contacts per Mil-DTL-5015 in shell sizes 10SL, 14 and 14S. Plastic equivalents to 3101 cable receptacle, 3102 box receptacle and 3106 cable plug. Weathertight option available with rubber gasket for box receptacle and 'O' ring for plug.
